What are cemented carbide and tungsten carbide blanks?
A cemented carbide blank or semi-finished product will be further machined into a specific component or tool. The distinction between tungsten carbide and cemented carbide is that tungsten carbide is a component of the material known as cemented carbide. Cemented carbide is produced by combining tungsten carbide with a binder. Cemented carbide can be produced in various forms as blanks or semi-finished products. The appropriate form depends on the final product, the application and the required subsequent machining operations.

GSE Carbide can supply custom-made cemented carbide preforms on request. The technical drawing forms the basis for this. Based on this, the required shape and dimensions are assessed and a quotation can be provided for the desired blank. A complete drawing, on which all relevant dimensions and tolerances are clearly indicated, is therefore important. In addition, the required quantities must be specified in the enquiry. Once the specifications are complete, GSE Carbide can assess the enquiry and arrange for the preform to be produced in accordance with the specified requirements. This results in a carbide blank or semi-finished product that is suitable for further machining and its final application.
